Better with butter (what isn’t?)

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 | No Comments »

Reader Jean7 pointed to this yummy sculpture listed in a Fox News image gallery: “Norma Lyon touches up her butter sculpture of Democratic Presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama following a town hall style meeting by the candidate at South Tama Middle School in Toledo, Iowa. The bust was made from 23 pounds of butter. The stop was part of today’s scheduled five-city campaign swing in the central part of the state in an attempt to gather last-minute support before the January 3 caucus.”

Obamabot added to the Hall of Presidents

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009 | No Comments »

OK, I can’t decide if this is cool or creepy: “A remarkably lifelike Audio-Animatronics figure of President Barack Obama enters the spotlight in a revised and refreshed Hall of Presidents show when it reopens July 4 in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. The addition of the countrys 44th chief executive is just part of the most significant update to this classic attraction since its 1971 debut in the parks Liberty Square.” First spotted on FARK.

Larry Busby writes to let us know: “I ran across this artist on Ebay. Dan Lacy has done many interesting pieces of Barack Obama. I personally own two of the 8×10 Unicorn Paintings. I also own several of his more serious gold 5×7′s of Obama.” Actually Larry, we have featured several of Lacy’s works (here, here, here and here) – but he is always worth another mention.

Blue Barack Obama

Megan Coyle writes in: “I made this mini collage entirely from magazine pages. All of my work focuses on creating representational work from recycled magazines, and I usually focus on portraits of people. When Obama was running for president, I was inspired to create a series of portraits of such a historical political figure. “Blue Barack Obama” is 7″x5″, and the work of art is part of a series of small collages. By working on a smaller scale, I was challenged to cut the right shapes of paper to get a good likeness of Obama.”
