Used motor oil

David Macaluso has an interesting material source for his paintings: “I came across your website today for the first time and wanted to share with you my Obama Art, that I made from used motor oil from car engines– both as an act of Recycling and commenting on the global energy climate and the green economy.” Full version and a second painting after the jump.

More:

“Petroleum has developed organically over the long life of the planet; gets extracted by humans from deep within the earth; is then converted into energy and industry and waste. Used motor oil is a waste product that I recycle into visual art. And this art in turn becomes another thread in that billion year fabric of planetary development.”
