Obamaware – Politics at the kitchen table
Ayumi of AyumiHorie.com wrote in to let us know about an interesting action that will start soon: “I’ve curated a ceramics show of 28 ceramic artists to make Obama/Biden themed work, with 50% of proceeds going to Obama… This is the only ceramic specific show I know of, plus we’ll have an essay up about this show in relation to historical political pottery.”

The site was down due to heavy traffic, but it looks like it is back up now. They may have to move the auction to ebay – to better meet the strain. Stay tuned for details. Also, it looks like the artist number has dropped from 28 (kiln disaster) to 27. I just hope that by “disaster”, Ayumi means that the work was destroyed (not the artist!)

Be sure to also read “Kitchen Table Politics: ‘Obamaware’ Campaigns for Change, One Mug at a Time“, the article by Sarah Archer. It begins with a wonderful quote from Garth Clark’s The Artful Teapot. A quote, that to me, empresses why it is so important to bring art at your table:
“The moment one picks up one of these objects to read it, one is already partly enveloped in that aura of home and hearth, and so one drops one’s defenses and is perhaps more receptive to the message the object contains.”
